"I want it now! I want it all!"
Sound familiar? You have probably heard it before & chances are you have heard it playing over and over again in your own head. As we achieve more, create more & automate more, we become lazy & complacent.
Now I am not one to b*tch & moan about technology. In fact - Paulo & I absolutely LOVE technology & think that we are all so f*cking lucky to be living at this time in history. But the fact remains, technology makes us weak, needy & impatient.
Want, Want, Want. The way of the masses.
Her marriage had just ended, she was a single mother living off welfare & struggling to put food in the mouth of her young daughter. Everyday she worked more an more on an idea that had come to her in a delayed train ride to King's Cross in London.
Writing in cafe's as her daughter slept in the pram beside her Joanne slowly weaved her wonderful world to life. Her inspiration came from her failures and sorrows in life; failed marriage, multiple miscarriages & the death of her parents to name just three.
On the 26th June 1997 at the age of 32 after 6 years of hardship & sacrifice Joanne released her first novel in a series of 7. Harry Potter would go on to become one of the best selling novels of all time. The books would influence millions & change the lives of children around the world.
What was Joanne's (J.K Rowling's) secret?
Joanne's secret was patience. Patience is one of the hardest things to master when you are working towards a dream, business, project or competition. But it is patience that sets apart those who succeed from those who fail.
We have been working towards our dream now for nearly 4 months and at times it feels as if we are never going to make it. Whenever these thoughts come to be it is crucial to stamp them out and remember that there is no such thing as over night success.
Behind every overnight success you will find at least a decade of hard work and sacrifice. You want to win? You have to lose over and over again and maintain your patience. End game baby! End game!
Lesson in Action
This past month has been a bit of a roller coaster. Everything was on the rise. The blog grew massively, our IG account doubled & we started getting interest from the artists and brands we wanted to work with. Then it just stopped.
Everything slowed down, our IG account actually dropped & it felt like we just weren't achieving the things we wanted to on a weekly basis. First reactions; "F*CK what happened?"
If you encounter this moment here is what we advise you do:
001 - Take a breath and think, 'Is this really worth stressing over?'
002 - Look to the long term. Short term fails are OK, focus on the long term WIN!
003 - Keep working at it & adapt to solve any issues.
Remember you will always over estimate what can be accomplished in a year or even in two. But you will massively underestimate what can be accomplished in a decade.
Play the long game and focus on the big win!
