"What if I was to tell you that all our actions, decisions and beliefs are governed by our Needs. Now what if I told you that you have the power to decide how you meet those needs.."
As Tony Robbins took the stage at TED Talks on February 15 2006 no one in the audience or the world could have predicted how significantly he was going to alter our perceptions on why we make the decisions we do. His famous speech describing humanities 6 needs, the invisible forces that guide all our decisions in life. The needs; Certainty, Uncertainty, Significance, Connection, Growth & Contribution have different levels of influence in all of us which explains why we are all different. This week we are going to talk about Significance and how we have decided to approach this need. Hopefully our approach motivates you to adjust how you meet your need for significance.
So what is the Need for Significance? Simply put we all want to feel like we matter, that we can make a difference, that others notice us or are inspired/influenced by our actions. Some of you may disagree but I am sorry to tell you that your wrong. You might think that's a bit rude to assume but take a moment to truly think about it. You may not want to be the next Kanye West but in your own small way, deep down you want to matter. Am I wrong?
The problem is that breaking buildings down is far easier than building them up. I suppose I should explain. Think of the majority of your conversations at work or with your friends. How many times are these conversations revolved around 'bitching or moaning about something or someone?' But while that conversation is happening and as you throw your two cents in chances are you are feeling as if your opinion and your involvement matters. Great you have met your need but at what cost?
HOW WE ARE APPLYING THIS LESSON
We have decided to try something different to meet our needs something that we think will enrich the lives of others while meeting our instinctual need to feel significant. Two things actually...
-One: We are raising money and awareness for a cause, not because we have an ulterior motive or because we want money for it. Not even because we want people to say thank you. Nope just by doing a charitable deed we have given ourselves a pure and fulfilling feeling of significance. And...AND.. we are positively affecting others and building those around us. Win!
-Two: We are building something! Creating something unique to us as 'Massie Bros.' Our creations are like our permanent contribution to the world and the more we create the more our feeling of significance grows.
This week we took some massive steps in the right direction as we filled our significance plates to the brim. We created some amazing new content which thrilled us and fuelled the hunger to build and create more. Can't wait to show you guys! (CHECK OUT OUR YOUTUBE)
We also locked in over $150 in donations for RUN 365(IN JUST ONE WEEK!) and we got backed by two amazing companies! You may have heard of them; Lululemon & Anytime Fitness. More updates to come over the next few weeks but we are thrilled that their influence will help us reach more people and raise more awareness for Motor Neuron Disease(MND). Yep! In case you weren't aware RUN 365 is raising money to help fight MND- FIND OUT MORE.
OUR CHALLENGE TO YOU
So here is our challenge to you and your need for significance this week. You don't need to start a charity or build a business. Nope.
You just need to participate in one simple act of kindness. Everyday walk up to a random stranger who needs assistance and help them. Don't ask for anything in return, just help because it is the right thing to do. If it doesn't make you feel significant feel free to let us know but I reckon it will!
Looking forward to next week? We are!
Keep The Dream Alive!
