It is scientifically proven that you are at least three times cooler when you are sipping cocktails on a rooftop bar. Alright so that's not 100% true, there is literally no scientific backing & your cool level probably doesn't change.
Rooftop bars do give our ego's a boost. There is nothing quite like watching the sunset above the masses while kicking back with some great drinks, great food & exceptional company. So without further adieu, here is our list of 'The 10 Best Rooftop Bars in Melbourne.'

Before you get excited this is not a nudist bar. Naked in the sky is an extension of the famous Fitzroy bar, Naked for Satan. The downstairs area is a dark and moody affair but with just one short and sweet elevator ride you will find yourself in rooftop heaven.

"Hey Bazza! Chuck us a Tinnie from the tub of Tinnies would yah?"
Yes, if you aren't from Melbourne then that probably sounds like gibberish, let me explain; This pub has a bath tub full of tin can beers. That already sounds like the beginnings of a great rooftop bar experience.
It was sad times when this Fitzroy classic shut it's doors but just one year later new owners Hitchens, Rowley, Vero and Benjamin, gave the old classic a breath of life. They have managed to maintain the old charm while adding some modern touches to give this classic a much needed boost of relevance.
The Marquis of Lorne offers a really authentic local vibe, with affordable food, a great rooftop & friendly staff. Make sure you check out this Fitzroy classic.

Calling all Football fans! We aren't talking AFL this time either, for those needing further translation we are talking Soccer. The best pub for watching the Premier League in Melbourne just so happens to be the third oldest bar in Melbourne.
You walk through the original Australian Red Cedar doors dating back to 1858 and you are greeted by some classic English pub feels and an endless number of beer taps. The rooftop operates year round and is easily one of the better vantage points in Melbourne's CBD.
Kick back with a pint of something local, tuck into your football sized Parma and watch the latest match on any of the one million big screens dotted around the rooftop.

009 - Goldilocks Bar
If you are on the hunt for a rooftop bar that is more intimate, comfortable and offers some incredible cocktails then Goldilocks is it. Unlike the ending of the classic Goldilocks fairy tale this spot will leave you with the desire to come back for more.
The journey to Goldilocks is an adventure in itself as you wined your way through a Chinese Restaurant, ride up an elevator and navigate one final set of stairs. The trip is worth it for the cocktails alone as some of Melbourne's finest bartenders create the perfect concoction for your evening.
If you are feeling hungry then the bar staff are happy to order you Chinese style bar snacks from Mr Kwok restaurant below. Tick this one off the list while you explore Melbourne's downtown.

010 - Whitehart
White Hart is as much of a feast to the eyes as it is to the belly and soul. This downtown Melbourne rooftop is a place to party, soak up some great wine or reflect on the day with some friends.
The rooftop itself is unique with the main focus being the Bar converted from an old shipping container. It is also hard to escape the sky even if you are situated on the bottom floor, this makes for a unique and pleasantly fresh dining experience.
The incredible artwork and murals that adorn the shipping containers and steel beams is enough reason to stay for at least a drink or ten.
Address: 22 Whitehart Lane, CBD 3000
Opening Hours: Thurs 12pm-12am; Fri/Sat 12pm-1am, Sun-Wed 12pm-11pm
Melbourne may have some cold and dreary days over winter but the winter is short and the Spring & Summer months are dominated by sunshine & incredible rooftop bars. Spend your day at the beach but make sure you save enough sunblock for some late evening rooftop entertainment.
Life is Great. Travel is Better.
